The Ashanti Region
& Beyond
Our efforts are centered at Mansa Memorial Hospital, which serves as both a maternal health hub and a training site for frontline health workers.
Why Ghana?
Ghana has made meaningful progress in maternal health, but rural areas like the Ashanti Region continue to face gaps. With a maternal mortality rate of 234 deaths per 100,000 live births, many women still lack access to timely, quality care. Challenges include limited infrastructure, provider shortages, and cultural barriers to facility births.
In partnership with Mansa Memorial Hospital, U-VOL Foundation’s ValueHer Initiative is helping close these gaps with a holistic, community-rooted approach.

Empowering Healthcare Providers
- Training midwives and staff in obstetric emergencies, resuscitation, and respectful maternity care
- Introducing POCUS technology to support real-time diagnosis during pregnancy
- Providing midwife kits (61 essential items supporting up to 50 births)
- Strengthening referral networks for high-risk pregnancies
Community Health Education
We conduct community-based educational sessions aimed at:
- Breast & Cervical Cancer awareness & screening
- Antenatal and postnatal care awareness.
- Menstrual hygiene management, including the introduction of sustainable menstrual products.
- Midlife and menopause education, addressing the needs of women across their lifespan.
These programs empower women with knowledge to make informed health decisions and advocate for their well-being.

Supporting Safe Birth Environments
Recognizing the importance of well-equipped healthcare facilities, we:
- Supply essential medical equipment and supplies
- Support infrastructure improvements to enhance service delivery.
- Collaborate with hospital staff to implement best practices in maternal and newborn care.
