Overview
We are excited that you are interested in serving others as a U-VOL medical mission outreach volunteer in Ghana, June 6th–13th, 2026! This mission will take place in Akyawkrom, a vibrant rural community in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. While the region is culturally rich and full of resilience, many local communities lack access to essential healthcare services. This mission offers a powerful opportunity to serve the underserved, support the healthcare workforce, and be part of a meaningful exchange of knowledge and compassion.
Our Mission & Impact
Our goal for this mission is to improve access to primary care and women’s health services for underserved individuals and families in the Ashanti Region. We are also committed to capacity building for local providers through service-based education and knowledge exchange.
During this outreach, our clinical team will offer:
- Basic health screenings (e.g., blood pressure, blood glucose, pregnancy tests)
- Consultations and treatment for a range of conditions including wound care, infections, malaria, and chronic disease management
- Maternal health assessments
- Medication dispensing and management
- Referrals to higher levels of care
- Minor procedures such as suturing, as needed
We’ll also facilitate provider education sessions on:
- Patient safety
- Emergency preparedness
- Clinical upskilling for maternal and community health workers
faced barriers to healthcare. As a volunteer, you will:
- Deliver full-spectrum primary and women’s healthcare—including screenings, consultations, treatment, and maternal assessments
- Dispense medications and provide individualized health counseling
- Lead or assist with community health education sessions
- Collaborate with Ghanaian providers in a mutual knowledge-sharing environment
- Strengthen local capacity through on-the-ground training and mentorship
Mission Schedule
- June 5 – International Departure
- June 6 – Arrival in Accra + connecting flight to Kumasi
- June 7 – Team orientation & clinic setup
- June 8–10 – Clinic Days (Akyawkrom)
- June 11 – Provider training & community education wrap-up
- June 12 – Cultural excursion
- June 13 – Return to Accra & depart for home
Transport & Lodging
Volunteers will stay in comfortable guest accommodations arranged by U-VOL in the Kumasi area. Daily transport to the clinic will be provided.
✈️ Flight Note: Volunteers will fly into Accra (ACC) and take a domestic flight to Kumasi.
🚐 Ground transport between Kumasi Airport, lodging, and clinic will be provided.
Volunteer Costs
- Cost: $1,600 per participant
- Group Rate: $1,200 per participant (for groups of 4 or more)
Included in Program Fee:
- Lodging
- Daily meals & bottled water
- Ground transport in Ghana
- Domestic flight from Accra to Kumasi
- U-VOL scrubs & outreach T-shirt
- Interpreters
- Cultural excursion entry fees
Not included:
- International airfare to Accra, Ghana (est. $1,500–$2,300)
- Transport from Accra airport to domestic terminal
- Visa costs (if applicable)
💰 A $750 non-refundable deposit is due upon application approval. Remaining fees must be paid in full at least 4 weeks before departure. All program fees are considered donations and are non-refundable.
Who Can Volunteer?
We welcome:
- Medical professionals: physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, midwives, and pharmacists
- Non-medical volunteers: for logistics support, patient flow, medication packing, clinic setup/breakdown, and administrative tasks
Volunteer Requirements

- Must be a resident of the U.S. or Canada
- Must be 18 years or older
- Medical professionals must have valid credentials through the mission duration
- Must hold a valid passport; responsible for securing visa if required
- Must be comfortable working in warm, low-resource environments (up to 90°F, minimal air conditioning)
- Program fees must be paid in full at least 4 weeks before departure
