A Crisis That Can’t Be Ignored
In Uganda, menstrual health challenges cause school absenteeism, lost income, and long-term health risks. The pandemic only worsened the issue—deepening poverty, stigma, and misinformation.
- "Up to 30% of girls miss school during menstruation (UNICEF, 2021)"
- "Women lose workdays due to lack of access (Ministry of Health, 2020)"
- “Infection risk and shame persist due to inadequate education and hygiene products”
We believe menstruation should never be a barrier to education, opportunity, or self-worth.

HerPad: Dignity in Every Cycle
Through the HerPad Project, U-VOL equips girls and women in Uganda with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to manage menstruation safely and with dignity.
- Reached 291 schoolgirls and 54 women with menstrual health education
- Delivered hands-on pad-making workshops
- Introduced menstrual cups as a long-term option
More Than Pads—It’s a Movement
HerPad goes beyond hygiene. It’s a scalable model for empowerment:
- Women-led pad-making enterprises create local income streams
- Use of washable materials and menstrual cups reduces environmental impact
- Sanitation education is woven into each touchpoint
This model aligns with Uganda’s Menstrual Hygiene Management Charter and the Ministry of Education’s guidelines, making it both compliant and expandable.
